Research in biosystems and agricultural engineering integrates life and agricultural
sciences with engineering design principles to solve problems related to grand challenges
for engineering and UN Sustainability Goals, including access to clean water, carbon
sequestration, sustainable land management, climate resilience, circular bioeconomy
systems, and health. Our faculty and research personnel conduct novel research in
several different areas: water resources and environmental engineering, machine systems and robotics, food
engineering, bioprocessing and nanotechnology, and rural health and safety.
Technical Research Areas
We actively seek and secure funding to support basic and applied research that has
positive impacts on how we nourish and power the world, serve as good stewards of
our environment and natural resources, and develop new approaches to improving human
and animal health. We are passionate in our quest to discover new knowledge, develop
innovative engineering solutions, and advance access new technologies and intellectual
property that support resiliency, sustainability, workforce development, and economic
growth
