Admission Requirements 

• Degree Requirement
  • An undergraduate degree in Biosystems Engineering or other Engineering from an ABET accredited or equivalent program.
    • ABET Accredited Programs
  • Students with undergraduate degrees in disciplines or closely‐related fields, such as chemistry, physics, mathematics, biological sciences, agricultural sciences, and environmental sciences are also invited to apply forBAE graduate program.
    • Such applications are evaluated on an individual basis. Additional credit hours of undergraduate courses, such as engineering sciences, may be required to take before a biosystems graduate plan of study is developed.
• GPA
  • Persons with a GPA of 3.0 or higher are generally automatically admitted.
  • Persons with a grade point average less than 3.0 will be considered, particularly if they have two or more years of professional engineering experience.
  • Prior research experience and publication for a PhD application are preferred.
• GRE Score
  • If you have graduated with a Bachelor of Science in engineering from an ABET accredited program, we do not need a GRE.
  • If you have graduated from a foreign university, GRE scores are not required, but are helpful in evaluating applications. There is no minimum required GRE score. We only use the score together with your transcripts and references.
  • However, we seldom grant international students financial assistance unless they report their GRE scores. International students are also required to take the Test of English as a Foreign Language.
  • The OSU TOEFL Institution Code is 6546 and the BAE Department Code is 99. The OSU GRE Institution Code is 6546 and the BAE Department Code is 1602.
• Application deadlines
  • Applications may be submitted at any time through a year. However, to facilitate timely review of your application and ensure your application receiving full consideration, please complete and submit your application at least 30 days prior to the deadline to allow sufficient time for your references to provide letters of recommendation on your behalf.
  • The application deadlines are shown below.
    • Fall semester (beginning August) admission:
      • January 15 for international applicants; March 15 for domestic applicants
    • Spring semester (beginning January) admission:
      • July 15 for international applicants; August 15 for domestic applicants
